Ducati’s New Superbike Ready To Launch!

For the Ducatista among you, you have your moles, your informants, you know everything there is to know about the new Superbike coming from Ducati.  For everyone else, well the wait is almost over!  We’ve known for some time that the bike will be an 1199cc V-Twin, it is a completely new design for the engine, no more remenants of the current V-Twin which can trace it’s lineage back to the 1970’s.  How does 195bhp and 395lbs (wet) grab you?

We also know that the bike will be much more expensive than the current 1198.  In recent years the price difference between the Ducati and it’s Japanese rivals has shrunk, but now expect the entry level 1199 to come it at $20,000 U.S. with higher spec version coming in at $25K and close to $30K.

The bike will also have a name.  Where every Ducati Superbike up to this point has been known by it’s engine size, 900SS, 851, 888, 916, 955, 998, 999, 1098 and 1198, this one will be known as the 1199 Panigale, as a nod to Ducati’s home.

Two Wheel Tuesday Brno WSS Last Lap

The last lap of the World Supersport race from Brno this past weekend was just about one for the ages!  Want to show people why motorcycle racing is SO much better than cage racing, this would be a good place to start.  Maybe not as good the the Assen WSS race last year, but still quite good.

An Irish Two Wheel Tuesday

Spies Shows He’s The Real Deal

Time for another edition of Two Wheel Tuesday.

The opening weekend for the World Superbikes at Philip Island was a cracker, and Ben Spies showed the world that he wasn’t just hype.  The Supersport race was outstanding as well, but as an American I had to jump up and wave the flag after the finish of round two.

Sorry that you have to listen to Johnathan Greene rather than Bernakle and Whitham.

Imola 2002 Edwards v Bayliss

Two Wheel Tuesday for this week is MASSIVE!  With the opening round of the World Superbike series less than two weeks away, I thought something to get you revved up for the season is called for.

There was a lot of talk about a “Duel In The Desert” between Rossi and Bayliss, but I ask you, could it live up to the “Throwdown At Imola”?  Remember the WSBK title battle between Edwards and Bayliss?  Troy had dominated the first half of the season opening a huge lead in the Championship, but come just past mid season at Laguna Seca, The Texas Tornado caught fire and went on a winning streak and come the last round of the series there were just a couple of points separating the two, the championship would be decided in the final round at Imola.

What we got were maybe two of the greatest races ever as these two went at it with everything they had and left it all on the track!  I’ve watched this clip of race two maybe a hundred times (no joke) and I still get excited to watch the pass and repass moves.
